M’Ama
Non M’Ama
Non M’Ama
The title comes from an Italian lottery scratch card and translates to loves me loves me not.
Just like picking out petals of a flower to determine the love interest’s affection, one scratches hoping to win.
Gambling is a combination of risk and ritual.
Visitors enter a world by passing through curtains made from scratch cards, and are confronted by two arm wrestlers ready to be challenged.
By accepting, the visitors become complicit. Their vulnerability is reciprocated by the mechanisms of this world,
where secrets can be traded for drinks, a fountain allows for an outside point of view, a television explains magic and a magpie is always behind the corner.
M’AMA NON M’AMA reflects on chance, fortune and fate, without ever settling on a position of disenchanted or enchanted,
leaving to the outside world whether to maintain or disrupt this balance.

The exhibition stretches over different spaces:
The corridor, with two paintings, one of an oyster, one of a magpie, leading to two rooms.
In order to enter the visitors have to pass through the curtains of (Scratch Card Curtains).
Both rooms have an identical set up for the performers of (Armwrestlers).
There are also aroma diffusers and empty powerade bottles. Each of the rooms lead to the bar,
where (Secrets) takes place. Jelly Oysters are served at the bar.
In all three rooms there is an edit of The girl from Petaluma playing in a loop.
In the toilet the audiobook Forschungen eines Hundes (Kafka) is playing, the lights are red.
From the bar exiting through a window the visitors can access the rooftop, the light is blue,
and following the rooftop to the end the last room, which is the largest, can be entered through another window.
NO LUCK PURE SKILL is installed in this room, one part of the video projected onto a wall,
the other part on a small TV screen placed on the floor in front of the projection.
On the opposit side of the room is a champagne fountain filled with blue powerade.
The performer of (Magpie) is mostly in this room as well.
Throughout all of the spaces fortune cookie phrases are taped to the walls.
